What We Do

Kansas City Symphony at Webster School

Melding together two iconic Kansas City cultural institutions

The repositioning of the historic Webster School into the new workplace for the Kansas City Symphony melds together two iconic Kansas City cultural institutions. Helix was the architect for the original renovation of the Webster School almost 20 years ago, becoming deeply familiar with the ornate details of the building. When the opportunity arose to create a new home for the Kansas City Symphony, Helix approached the project with a light touch. Stained glass, intricately carved wood handrails, and sophisticated finishes are celebrated throughout the renovation and highlighted with modern insertions.

The Kansas City Symphony (KCS) envisioned a home that would bring the community into their space. “The Webster House building will be the front door to the Kansas City Symphony, where we will provide new ways for the community to interact with us through recitals, educational programs, events and opportunities to meet our musicians,” Danny Beckley, Kansas City Symphony Executive Director. The space will feature an area for public gatherings on the first floor and an outdoor courtyard. On the upper two levels, KCS will have dedicated office, meeting and event spaces.
