In The News: Milhaus rounds bend on Freight House Development District’s first leg
Working alongside national developer Milhaus, Helix presented the design for the project, tentatively called The Tracks, to the CCA. Currently a surface parking lot, the new building will be one of only a few infill opportunities in the Freight House Development District.
According to the Business Journal, the plans call for approximately 200 apartments that wrap and sit atop a 261-space podium parking garage, southwest of Wyandotte and 22nd streets. The Tracks consists of a C-shaped multifamily building just upward of 80 feet tall, adjacent to Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue’s Freight House District restaurant.
Helix Principal and Principal-in-Charge Doug Stockman noted that “the bulk of apartments will be studio and one-bedroom units, with some two- and-three bedrooms included. Porches will be strategically positioned, using hues and materials that evoke the old box cars that once served the site.”
“We wanted to make sure that we struck a balance between… refined and yet authentic to the Crossroads, which is to have a little bit of grit to it as well — not too shiny, not too glossy, but something that really is as if you might imagine it to be there.”
