Erika Moody Named President of Helix Architecture + Design

Helix Architecture + Design, a nationally recognized architecture and interior design firm headquartered in Kansas City, announced that Erika Moody, IIDA, has been named President.

For the last five years Moody has served as co-managing principal, overseeing key aspects of firm management and strategic planning along with the firm’s corporate workplace practice. Prior to joining Helix, she was a principal with one of Kansas City’s largest architecture firms, and started her own design practice, which merged with Helix in 2016. She counts many of the region’s top employers among her clients, including Cerner, DEG, H&R Block, JE Dunn Construction, McCownGordon Construction and UMB Bank.

“The work that we do is truly humbling. I am honored to take on this role and fortunate to have a brilliant team of partners by my side to guide the future of the firm.” — Erika Moody, IIDA

The announcement comes as Helix is entering its thirtieth year of business. During that time the firm has been a leader in the urban revitalization of downtown Kansas City and led high-profile projects throughout the region. Most recently that includes the mixed-use developments on each corner of the intersection at Armour and Troost; McCownGordon Construction’s new headquarters; Barbara A. Marshall Residence Hall at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI); the Center for Medical Education Innovation at Kansas City University (KCU); 19 Main at Corrigan Station; and the new College of Dental Medicine at KCU’s growing Joplin campus.

“Each day our team works alongside many of Kansas City’s foremost civic and corporate leaders to shape the built environment around us. Through our work we are able to positively impact the experiences of clients, employees, students, residents and visitors throughout our community,” said Moody. “The work that we do is truly humbling. I am honored to take on this role and fortunate to have a brilliant team of partners by my side to guide the future of the firm.”

“[Erika] serves in the critical role of being the bridge between where the firm has been and where we want it to go.” — Reeves Wiedeman, FAIA

The firm’s leadership team includes founding principals Reeves Wiedeman, FAIA; Jay Tomlinson, FAIA; and Mike Heule, AIA; and principals Bryan Gross, AIA; Doug Stockman, AIA; Alissa Wehmueller, IIDA; and Evan Fox, AIA. Moody succeeds Wiedeman as president. He will remain actively involved in firm and client management.

“Erika is a respected colleague within the profession, a trusted partner to her clients and a successful entrepreneur in her own right,” said Wiedeman. “Since our companies merged in 2016, she has been instrumental in leading the firm’s transition to its next generation of up-and-comers. In doing so, she serves in the critical role of being the bridge between where the firm has been and where we want it to go.”

As an active member of Kansas City’s civic and philanthropic community, Moody’s leadership extends beyond the firm. She currently serves as a Vice President for the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) International Board and is a member of the University of Kansas Medical Center Advancement Board. She is a member of the Kansas City Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business 2017 class, a 2009 graduate of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Centurions Leadership Program, served as the president of the IIDA Mid-America chapter and served on the Board of Interior Design at the University of Arkansas, the Board of Interior Architecture at Kansas State University and the Board of Directors for Synergy Services. In 2017, the IIDA Mid America chapter recognized Moody with the Vision Award for her ongoing leadership and mentorship in advancing the profession.
